Visitors strolling along Wellington’s iconic waterfront walkway should keep their eyes peeled. The public path, which hugs the harbor, is adorned by 23 plaques inscribed with quotes, phrases, and poems from New Zealand novelists, authors, and playwrights. The inscriptions can be found underwater, inscribed on wooden deck boards, and hidden on the underside of a pier.
