A dozen or so workbenches occupy a roughly 2,000-square-foot space in downtown Richmond, Virginia. They’re covered with neatly arranged tools and safety gear: jigsaws, scalpels, grinders, palm sanders, airbrushes, gloves, and goggles. But it’s not your average fabrication shop or artists’ studio.
